Edward Gustav Eisenlohr is known as a lithographer, writer and lecturer, but primarily as a painter of subjects and scenes in Texas and New Mexico. At the age of 14, Eisenlohr and his family moved from Texas to Europe, where he studied in Germany and Switzerland. Approximately two years later, Eisenlohr returned to Dallas, Texas to work in a bank. During this time he studied under Frank Reaugh and Robert Jenkins Onderdonk, and he also spent time in Woodstock, New York as a student of Birge Harrison.
