Eighteenth-century painting depicting 4th-century martyr Catherine of Alexandria in secular clothing. The palm frond in the upper right of the canvas signifies that she was martyred, and the crown of roses signifies the Virgin Mary. The sword in her hand represents her martyrdom by beheading.
