My name is Ynez Esqueda, and I am a studio artist born and raised in San Antonio. I graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2023. Most of my work explores self-reflection and organic gestures that express an otherworldly feeling of dreaming.
My design represents the natural elements of San Antonio, with an homage to our River Walk and the Alamo. The busy blues of the glistening water represent nourishment, and the aged tan limestone resembles a cow print pattern. I acknowledge our history of over 300 years with the classical art of bronze work by painting the rest of the cow to imitate glossy patina that occurs with oxidation. The intertwining floral imagery incorporates flowers that are native to the region.
