Buck Mahaney began painting and sketching in his thirties before developing his talent for fine art bronze sculpture, working primarily in the Old West tradition. He was entirely self-taught, having never taken an art lesson, and carefully researched his subjects by consulting experts, historians, and Native Americans to achieve historical accuracy and detail. In 1990, Mahaney was honored by the Texas State Legislature as one of the top artists in the Southwest. His sculptures have been presented to former Texas Governor Bill Clements, former President George W. Bush, Jr., and a U.S. Supreme Court Justice, and his work is held in prominent collections including that of the Rockefeller family.
