Born in Detroit, Michigan, Bill Sawczuk earned degrees in mechanical engineering and architecture before pursuing a career in fine art. In 1976, he enrolled at the Rocky Mountain School of Art in Denver. Most of his art education, however, has been "self-taught," gleaning information from art books and magazines, visiting museums and galleries, and simple trial and error while painting and drawing.

As a young man traveling through the Western states on a motorbike, he literally fell in love with the Teton Park - Yellowstone area and has since called Wyoming his home. Based in Jackson Hole, his subject matter includes horses, cowboys, wildlife and the landscapes of Wyoming. To capture the essence of this magnificent state, Bill often goes snowshoeing in the winter, even in the coldest of temperatures and hikes in the spring and summertime to his favorite spots. Describing his work as impressionistic realism, Bill often draws on his architectural background, capturing many of the historic areas around Jackson Hole including old barns and working dude ranches.
