Andy Thomas (Amer., b. 1957), "A Very Desperate Ride", oil on canvas
sight: 18 x 24 in., frame: 23 x 29 in.
Provenance: Property from a home in San Antonio, Texas
Largely self-taught, Thomas is a versatile American artist known for his richly detailed historical oil paintings, particularly of Civil War battles in the Trans-Mississippi Theater. With a degree in Marketing Management from Missouri Southern State College, he spent 16 years in advertising before dedicating himself fully to art. Despite lacking formal art education, Thomas has mastered multiple media including oil, watercolor, pen & ink, and sculpture. A devastating hand injury in 1996 did not stop his creative drive; he continued to paint using his non-dominant hand, producing works such as "Custer at Little Big Horn". His paintings are featured in museums, National and State Parks, and private collections, and have appeared in numerous publications and films. Thomas is a member of several prestigious art societies and has received national recognition, including honors from the Portrait Society of America and Arts for the Parks.
