Alyce Frank (New Mexico, 1932-2024), "Spring in Peñasco", oil on canvas, signed lower right, inscirbed on the verso with signature, title, and inventory code #201

sight: 24 x 36 in., frame: 33 x 45 in.

Provenance: Property from a San Antonio, Texas antiques collector

Alyce Frank began painting seriously in 1973 after moving to Arroyo Hondo, New Mexico. She studied with Ray Vinella for four years, attended annual landscape workshops with Bob Ellis at the University of New Mexico, and in 1986 participated in a master class with Richard Diebenkorn. Frank’s style is characterized by bold, non-naturalistic colors and chromatic exaggeration, often using red grounds to create visually explosive, Fauvist style interpretations of New Mexico and Utah landscapes. Her work has been exhibited widely, including at the Roswell Museum, Wichita Art Museum, Fenix Gallery in Taos, Taos Museum of Art, and the Museum of New Mexico’s Traveling Landscape Show, and is held in private collections across the United States, including those of Christopher Walken-Wyman and Alexander Oppenheimer.
