Armando Garcia Nunez (Mexico, 1883-1965), southwestern landscape, oil on panel
sight: 10 x 14.5 in., frame: 15.5 x 19.5 in.
Provenance: Property from a home in San Antonio, Texas
Armando Garcia Nunez' work depicts Mexican painting between the colonial period and the Revolution. His uncluttered landscapes embrace rural Mexico; there are spacious valleys and adobe structures under open skies. Garcia Nunez spent time in Barcelona, Madrid and Paris before returning in 1913 to Mexico in the midst of the Revolution. He became one of Mexico's great teachers of anatomical drawing and imitation at the National Preparatory School, with a career spanning thirty years.
